Structure work #2: window

 

installation consisting of two videos and four A3 prints

window is part of structure which explores the ever changing structure-construction of things. These things are the constructions we live in such as for example social & cultural constructions, modes of behaviour, traditions, repetitive patterns, schools of philosphy and physical constructions such as architectural creations, animals, mountains, lakes. The constructions are in constant interaction and a slight change can trigger a chain of alterations (result of change, causal effects, chaos, interferences etc.). There seems to be an underlying (?variable or constant?) structure that hold together those constructions

I am interested in the following questions:

  1. What happens if there is a change in structure? What impact and how much of an impact does it have on the constructions and are all the constructions affected by it? How much does a change in structure alter the constructions?

  2. What happens to the structure if there is an initial change in the constructions (eg. change of form or content, removing elements/parameters) and can a change in the constructions actually have an impact on the structure?

Structure consists of a series of interrelated pieces of numbered works.

Process of work

The basis of window is a 1.14 min long footage of a council estate in London.

Step 1: pink overlay on random window

step 2: pink overlay on everything but the in step 1 selected random window which is now a particular window

step 3: screen shot in editing program and

step 4: processing of blown-up still in Photoshop. The result is a series pixelated windows.

The simple structure of each pixelated image (which have been processed into a high res image) has been generated as a result of step 1 & 2.
